Two local adults charged with felony child neglect
On Wednesday, October 6, at approximately 7:09 pm, a 911 call was received from 1203 South McGehee Street Lot 8 in Poplarville. The caller stated that they needed an ambulance at the location regarding a 6 month old child who would not eat according to Poplarville Police Chief Danny Collier.
Chief Collier said that when officers arrived at the location, it was determined that a second child also lived at the same address. Child Protective Services was called in to ensure the welfare of the children.
The six month old child was transferred to the Pearl River County Hospital in Poplarville via AAA ambulance where she later died. The second child, 18 months old, was also transported to the Pearl River County Hospital.
The parents of the children, Takoda Jordan Miller, age 23 and Kendra Makalaya Beck, age 20, were placed under arrest for felony child neglect and transported to the Lenoir Rowell Criminal Justice Center.
This case is still under investigation. Pending autopsy results, the charges will likely be upgraded according to Chief Collier.
Poplarville Police Department is the investigating agency.
