A prominent Picayune businessman was honored during the Picayune City Council meeting Tuesday evening. William Bruce "Dub" Herring, of Herring Ford and Paw Paw's Camper City fame, passed away a few weeks ago.

Paw Paw, as he was known to many, left behind a legacy of service, not only in his businesses, but to the community he truly loved.

Mr. Dub was a Navy veteran having served in the Korean War. He was voted Picayune Citizen of the Year in 1993, co-founded Day Star Ministries and Home of Grace and founded Jacob's Well Recovery Center for Women.

His love for high school baseball was well known. Down the road in Poplarville, the beautiful baseball stadium at Pearl River Community College bears his name and is affectionately referred to as "The Dub".

Dr Adam Breerwood, President of Pearl River Community College, stated that “when it came time to put a name on the stadium, one person came to mind, Dub Herring. The Dub stands as a testament to all the good Dub brought to our area. “

Breerwood added, “When you spoke to Mr. Dub, you felt important.  When you walked away, you felt more important.  Mr. Dub had the ability to change the dynamics of a room with a simple laugh; with a simple smile.  For all of us who knew Mr. Dub, you know what I’m talking about.”
