Traffic stop leads to the arrest of two persons for illegal narcotics


According to Assistant Chief of Field Operations James Bolton, patrol units conducted a traffic stop on a gray 2008 Jeep Liberty at approximately 9:21 p.m. at 100 Memorial Blvd.


The driver of the vehicle was identified as Carl “Mudd” Jenkins, age 47, of 130 Margaret Street, Picayune, and a female passenger was identified as Lashunda Dawson, age 34, of 1223 Kingsway Drive, Apt A1, Picayune.

Officers observed the two suspects to be moving around inside the vehicle when officers approached it. The officers ordered Jenkins and Dawson to exit the vehicle. Through investigative techniques, detectives were able to recover crack cocaine, MDMA (Ectasy), and Xanax from Jenkins and Dawson. A large amount of U.S. currency was also located with the two individuals according to Assistant Chief Bolton.


Both Jenkins and Dawson were charged with three counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance with the Intent to Distribute and three counts of Tampering with Physical Evidence.


Dawson was arrested at the scene of the traffic stop. Jenkins was transported to an area hospital for treatment of chest pains according to Bolton. Warrants were issued for the arrest of Jenkins upon his release from the hospital.
