Rebels punch ticket to give Hayden Dunhurst a trip to "The Greatest Show on Dirt"
With the Ole Miss Rebels’ sweep of USM in the super regional, it means another Pearl River County native will get a chance to play in the NCAA College World Series. Hayden Dunhurst, who was an integral part of Pearl River Central’s Class 5A State Championship in 2017, will now get a chance to play with his Ole Miss teammates in the “Greatest Show on Dirt” in Omaha, Nebraska.
Dunhurst is listed as the 152 ranked player overall for the upcoming MLB draft. Dunhurst, a junior, won the 2021 ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove Award Winner (Catcher) last season.
Dunhurst will be the 4th player from Pearl River County player, the first from Pearl River Central to play in the NCAA Division 1 College World Series.
Three Picayune Maroon Tide alums have had the thrill of playing in Omaha in the College World Series: Matt Riser, an outfielder (Tulane) played in 2005, Justin Pigott, left handed pitcher (Mississippi State) played in 2007,and Braxton Lee, outfielder (Ole Miss) played in 2014.
