Proactive patrolling leads to arrest

Picayune Police Department Assistant Chief Dustin Moeller detailed an arrest made by Patrol Officers while they were conducting proactive patrolling.


On July 27, 2020, at approximately 4:38 p.m., Patrol Officers conducted a traffic stop on a red Toyota Camry for the violation of No Seat Belt at the intersection of Memorial Blvd and South Loftin Avenue. Officers made made contact with driver, identified as Cody David Williams, age 28, of 2075 East McHenry Road, Perkinston, MS.

Officers smelled a strong odor of what appeared to be Marijuana emitting from the vehicle. Through further investigation by the officers, it was learned that Williams did not possess valid insurance on the vehicle he was driving according to Moeller.


Narcotic Detectives arrived on the scene and at which time they recovered a clear plastic bag containing a crystal substance believed to be methamphetamine. Moeller stated the Detectives conducted a search of the vehicle and they located a burnt, hand-rolled cigar containing a green leafy substance believed to be Marijuana.


At this time, Williams was placed under arrest for Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Distribute, Possession of Marijuana in a Motor Vehicle, No Insurance, and No Seat Belt.

Williams was transported to the Criminal Justice Center where he was booked and incarcerated on the said charges according to Moeller.
