Picayune swamps Gautier Gators 42-14

Gautier—Picayune scored the first three times it had the ball and the Maroon Tide defense forced three Gautier punts in setting the tone for a 42-14 win at Vaughn-Wallace Stadium.

Donte Dowdell scored the first touchdown on a 44 yard run,
Darnell Smith scooted in from 3 yards out for the second score, and Dowdell added a 5 yard run.
Morgan Craft booted the extra points for a 21-0 lead in the first quarter.

Chris Davis scored on a two yard run with 7:06 left in the second quarter to push it to 28-0.
Gautier scored on a two yard pass from Kaden Irving to Kelvin Beavers with 3:26 left before half.
On the first play of the second half, Josh Tatum interception an Irving pass and one play later Darnell Smith ran for a 50 yard touchdown. Craft’s point after made it 35-7 with 11:36 left in the third quarter.
Chris Davis closed out the Maroon Tide scoring with a 5 yard run with 3:42 left in the third quarter.
Irving connected with Derrell Ray on a 14 yard touchdown pass with :41 left in the game.
Dowdell led Picayune with 16 rushes for 181 yards. Davis added 70 yards on 11 carries and Smith finished with 56 yards on 5 totes. Picayune rushed for 396 yards. Dawson Underwood completed 4 of 7 passes for 79 yards for Picayune.
Picayune (10-1, 6-0) will host Hattiesburg on Friday in the first round of the Class 5A South playoffs.
