Picayune shuts out Blue Devils 42-0

Picayune-The Maroon Tide took advantage of three Pearl River Central turnovers in winning the Regional 4-5A opener for both teams 42-0 at Lee-Triplett Stadium.
Pearl River Central fumbled on the first play from scrimmage and Tyrel McGill pounced on the ball at the PRC 37. Dorian Robinson slashed in 9 plays later from 5 yards out and Morgan Craft split the uprights on the point after for a 7-0 lead with 7:01 left in the first stanza.

The Blue Devils responded with 11 play possession before turning the ball over on downs at the Maroon Tide 19. The two teams traded punts with Picayune eventually getting the ball at its own 37.
Seven plays later Darnell Smith busted loose and raced 50 yards for a touchdown and Craft was once again near perfect on the extra point for a 14-0 lead with 4:40 left in the half.
The Maroon Tide recovered the second half kickoff at its 47 after an attempted onside kick by PRC. Four plays later Donte “Double-D” Dowdell rumbled off a 37 yard touchdown run with 9:57 left in the third quarter. Craft again split the uprights on the PAT.
The ensuing kickoff was fumbled by PRC and the Maroon Tide recovered the ball at the Blue Devil 28. Dawson Underwood scored on the fifth play and Craft split the poles again for a 28-0 lead with 7:24 left in the third quarter.
After the Blue Devils were forced to punt on its possession after the kickoff, Picayune went on a 13 play drive covering 71 yards that used 6 minutes and 27 seconds of the clock that resulted in Robinson’s second touchdown, this time from 2 yards out. Craft booted the point after for a 35-0 lead with 9:30 left in the game.
Picayune closed out the scoring when Brady Roberson connected with Darnell Smith on 23 yard catch and run with 7:58 left. Craft was true again on the extra point to make it 42-0.
Picayune rushed the ball 42 times for 279 yards with Dowdell amassing 156 yards on 22 carries.
The Maroon Tide (4-1,1-0) will host Vancleave on Friday.
