Picayune man arrested for attempted murder in Hancock County

Monday afternoon, Hancock County Sheriff’s Department deputies arrested a Picayune man after the suspect allegedly shot another man four times in an apparent argument over money.

The suspect, Heath Colby Broom, age 36, is being charged with attempted murder. The incident occurred at Road 269 in Kiln.

Hancock County Chief Investigator Glenn Grannan said Tuesday that authorities still aren’t releasing the identity of the victim. Grannan said that Broom and the victim appeared to know each other and the shooting appears to be from an argument over money or something being owed. The incident is still under investigation according to Grannan.

The victim is currently listed in stable condition at an area hospital according to Grannan.

According to the Hancock County Sheriff’s office jail inmate listing, Broom was booked and is being held at the Hancock County Adult Detention Center on a $100,000 bond. His initial justice court date is listed as July 14.
