Picayune fire rating improves from 5 to 4

Picayune Fire Chief Keith Brown released a letter from the Mississippi State Rating Bureau of the recent survey and grading of the City of Picayune’s fire prevention and fire protection facilities. The results of that survey are an improved fire insurance classification of Fourth Class that was confirmed on December 23, 2019.

In a letter from Joe Shumaker of the Mississippi State Rating Bureau, Shumaker stated that this public protection classification applies to eligible properties (properties having a needed fire flow of 3,500 gallons per minute or less) located within the legal boundaries of the City of Picayune, withing five (5) road miles of the responding fire department serving the City and within 1,000 feet of a standard fire hydrant. Properties not within 1,000 feet of a standard public hydrant will receive the split classification.
