Picayune clinches top seed for playoffs with win over Long Beach

Picayune-Picayune secured the top seed from Region 4 Class 5A on Friday with a 56-0 thrashing of the Long Beach Bearcats at Lee-Triplett Stadium.
The Maroon Tide defense forced Long Beach to punt on every possession in the first half. When Picayune had the ball, they wasted little time in putting up points.

Dante Dowdell scored from 1 yard out with 7:59 left in the first quarter, Chris Davis went 70 yards with 5:23 left, and Dawson Underwood threw a 45 yard pass to Justin Martz to build a 21-0 lead.
In the second quarter, Dowdell scored on a 37 yard run, and Davis scored from 73 yards away to make it 35-0 at the half.

In the third quarter, Dorian Robinson scored on a 13 yard run and Darrell Smith raced 69 yards to make it 42-0. Picayune scored its last points when Kyler King blocked a Long Beach (1-8, 0-6) field goal attempt and Christian Nixon scooped up the ball and sprinted 75 yards for the touchdown.
Morgan Craft converted all seven point after attempts for Picayune.
Picayune (9-1, 6-0) will close out the regular season at Gautier on Thursday before hosting a First Round Playoff game on Friday, November 12th.
