Picayune blanks ‘Goula 38-0 in 2nd Round Playoffs

Picayune-  Picayune scored on every possession in the first half and the Maroon Tide defense put up its second shutout in a row in it’s 38-0 win over Pascagoula in Round 2 of the Class 6A playoffs. During the regular season, Picayune beat the Panthers 51-14.


With placekicker Morgan Craft producing touchbacks on kickoffs, the Maroon Tide defense was dominant allowing the Panther offense just one first down.


Picayune took command of the game early.


Niquis Ratcliff (pictured below) scored from 7 yards out to complete Picayune’s first possession.  The drive was 10 plays covering 53 yards and use 4:12 off the clock.

The next possession saw Brady Robertson find Jeremiah Contee in the right flat and Contee scooted down the sideline for a 35 yard touchdown to complete a 9 play 78 yard drive. 


The third touchdown drive was 60 yards in 5 plays with Chris Davis slashing in from 12 yards out.


Robertson threw a 2 yard touchdown to Ratcliff on a fourth and goal situation for the fourth touchdown that was part of a 9 play 63 yard possession.


The final score of the half came via Darrell Smith’s 21 yard sprint.   Craft was perfect on all the extra points and he added a 36 yard field goal in the second half.

Robert Williams and Brandon Parker had interceptions for the Picayune defense. 

The Maroon Tide held Pascagoula to a net of 61 yards of total offense.


Picayune ran for 241 yards with Smith leading all rushers with 93 yards. Robertson was 4 of 5 for 88 yards.


Picayune (10-2) will play for the South State Championship on the road at West Jones on the day after Thanksgiving.
