POPLARVILLE, Miss. — Pearl River Community College will make history Monday and Tuesday as its first-ever women's golf team will hit the links for the first time. The Wildcats will be just one of three community colleges in Mississippi to field a women's golf team, joining East Mississippi and Northwest.
"It's very exciting to be one of the pioneers of women's golf in the state of Mississippi," head coach Coby Scarborough said. "This year will be interesting because we aren't sure what to expect. We put together tryouts and found six great golfers who wanted to be part of PRCC's first women's team. I want these ladies to go out, play hard and try to have a solid showing."
Pearl River will hit the links for the first time on Monday for the MACCC preview at Tunica National, and the excitement within the program is incredibly high.
"These girls are excited, and they are really like a family," Scarborough said. "They are supportive of each other and help each other get better. They are also a little unknowing and aren't sure what to expect, but they believe in themselves. I'm excited to see them get out there."
