Pearl River releases 2020 football schedule

POPLARVILLE, Miss. — The Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference has officially announced the revised 2020 football schedule.

Due to the ongoing Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the MACCC opted to shorten the schedule to a division-only format that will include one bye week. Every team’s schedule consists of three home games and three road competitions.

The conference previously announced a revised eight-game schedule on July 6.

2020 SCHEDULE PRCC’s entire schedule will be played on Thursday with all home games set for 7 p.m. kickoffs.

The Wildcats will open the 2020 season on Oct. 1 at Dobie Holden Stadium against rival Mississippi Gulf Coast. After visiting Copiah-Lincoln on Oct. 8 for a 6:30 p.m. kickoff, PRCC returns to Poplarville on Oct. 15 to face East Central.

Following a bye week, the annual “Cat Fight” will return to Ellisville for a second straight season on Oct. 29 as PRCC visits Jones College for a 7 p.m. kickoff.

Sophomore Night and Homecoming are set for Nov. 5 against Southwest.

The 2020 regular season will conclude Nov. 12 at Hinds. Kickoff is at 6:30 p.m.

The 2020 playoffs will be shortened to one game, with the North Division winner playing the South Division Champion.

Schedules are subject to change. Any further updates will be posted at PRCCAthletics.com and on PRCC’s social media platforms.

MACCC APP The MACCC launched a new app last week that’s available for download on all smart phone devices. The app contains stats, scores, notifications and more from all 15 members of the MACCC. To download, search “MACCC Sports” in your app store.

STREAMING + RADIO PRCCMedia.com will once again be the digital home for Pearl River Wildcat Athletics in 2020-21. All football games will be livestreamed in addition to being carried on WRJW 1320 AM and WRJWRadio.com.

Carey Meitzler will return as the play-by-play voice of the Wildcats for both the stream and radio. He'll be joined once again by Barry Harper as the color analyst. Jacob Hickman will provide insight from the sidelines.

NEW ERA Coach Seth Smith has returned “home” to lead the Wildcats after a standout career as a high school coach across South Mississippi. A Pearl River Central and PRCC grad, Smith got his coaching start at Picayune in 2004. After coaching at PRC, Smith got his first head coaching opportunity in 2013 when he took over East Central in Hurley. Smith immediately turned the Hornets into a contender, building a 53-34 record over seven seasons that included 13-1 and 12-1 records in 2017 and 2018. ECHS also claimed the 2017 MHSAA Class 4A South State Championship and played for it again in '18.
