Picayune --A large crowd gathered Tuesday morning just across from the Picayune Municipal Airport for the groundbreaking ceremony for the Pearl River County Technology Park with local officials from the area and Governor Tate Reeves.

Pearl River County Administrator Adrain Lumpkin reminded those present of the efforts to finally make this site a reality.

“I woke up this morning thinking about this and vividly remember Mr. Glade Woods and his vision for this, and along with Mr. Charles Ray Perry got it started.  It took a long time to get this done and I’m glad where we are today,” Lumpkin stated.

Lumpkin gave sincere thanks to the city of Picayune, the Board of Supervisors, the local delegation of state representatives and senators, and Governor Tate Reeves' office for their efforts.

Pearl River County Director of Economic Development, Ms. Lindsay Ward, shared her excitement for this groundbreaking.

“Days like today are incredibly exciting because they represent a culmination of planning development to create a great opportunity for our future.”

Governor Tate Reeves summed up the site and its bright future.

“Growing up in Mississippi. And even if you didn't grow up here when you moved here, did you ever think that Mississippi in 2024 would have the second fastest growing economy in the entire United States of America?  Did you ever think that in 2024 that Mississippi would have the fourth fastest growing per capita income growth in all of America? My friends, Mississippi is not just making news, we're making history and it didn't happen by accident. It happened because we have record-breaking economic development projects. It's happened because we've been strategic in our investments. It happened because quite frankly, we've done for the last five years exactly what we're doing today, and that is we are laying the groundwork for the future. We are building the foundation for the buildings that are going to come here. And the buildings are going to be nice and they will have property taxes associated with them for you cities and your counties. But it really isn't about the buildings, we all know is about the people that are going to be inside those buildings that are working every single day. Because with work comes dignity. With work comes opportunity. With work comes the opportunity to provide for your family.”

The site sprawls over 30 acres of masterfully planned land, strategically situated along Runway Road, right across from the Picayune Municipal Airport.  The property, zoned for Light Industrial use, is equipped to host a wide array of manufacturing operations, making it a dynamic choice for innovative businesses.
