Ocean Springs takes down Maroon Tide 31-21

Picayune—Ocean Springs won its fourth consecutive game with an outstanding performance from their quarterback William Berglind that pushed the Greyhounds past Picayune 31-21 at Lee-Triplett Stadium.

Picayune struck first when Darrell Smith raced 68 yards for a touchdown on the first play from scrimmage. Edgar Cruz booted the extra point for a 7-0 lead with 11:42 on the clock.
Picayune’s defense got the ball back when Ocean Springs fumbled a completed pass on its second play after the Maroon Tide kickoff. The Greyhounds held Picayune on downs and got the ball back on its 41. Five plays later Berglind scored on a quarterback draw when he ran straight up the middle of the field from 25 yards out with 7:45 left in the first quarter. Peyton Williams tied the game at 7-7 with his extra point.
The Maroon Tide fumbled on the first play after the kickoff and Ocean Springs setup shop at the Picayune 26. After a loss on first down, Berglind connected with Bryhsen Smith for a 28 yard touchdown pass and Williams was successful on the point after to put the Greyhounds up 14-7 with 6:45 left in the first quarter.
Another Maroon Tide fumble, this time on a punt return, gave Ocean Springs the ball at the Picayune 36. The Greyhounds had to settle for a 34 yard field goal by Williams with 11:56 left in the half.
Ocean Springs extended to lead to 24-7 on William Smith’s 8 yard run on the first drive of the third quarter capping off a 9 play 73 yard drive.
Picayune responded with an 11 play drive covering 78 yards that resulted in a 5 yard run by Niquis Ratcliff with 4:14 left in the quarter to cut it to 24-14 after Cruz kicked the extra point.
However, Breglind marched this team down the field on a 10 play 68 yard drive that produced a 18 yard pass from Breglind to Talan Carter on fourth down.
Smith added another Maroon Tide on a 20 yard run with 5:14 left in the game.
Smith finished with 21 carries for 164 yards.
Breglind completed 17 of 26 passes for 226 yards.
Picayune (3-2) has an open week before being region play at Pascagoula on October 6th.
