No. 1 Pearl River earns nine MACCC awards

POPLARVILLE, Miss. — The post-season honors have started to roll in, and the No. 1 Pearl River baseball team earned a remarkable nine Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference awards.


Head coach Michael Avalon was named Coach of the Year. Center fielder Tate Parker (Gulfport; West Harrison) and left fielder Gabe Broadus (Wilmer, Ala.; Faith Academy) were named First Team All-MACCC. Third baseman Alex Perry (McComb; North Pike), first baseman D.K. Donaldson (Gulfport; West Harrison), right fielder Ian Montz (Lafayette, La.; Acadiana) and right-handed pitcher Turner Swistak (Hattiesburg; Oak Grove) earned Second Team selections. Right-handers Cole Tolbert (Laurel; West Jones) and Leif Moore (Biloxi; St. Martin) were named Honorable Mention.

COACH OF THE YEAR

Avalon led the Wildcats to a 40-10 overall record, including a 22-6 mark in conference play. The Wildcats clinched the MACCC Championship for the second year in a row and earned an NJCAA DII World Series appearance by winning the Region 23 Tournament.
