MDE releases data on graduation and dropout rates for school districts


The Mississippi Department of Education released the data on high school graduation and some local districts were among the top in the state. The data compiled was based on whether students who entered high school in the 2015-2016 school year graduated by July 2019.


Bay St Louis / Waveland was 7th with a graduation rate of 93.5 percent and Poplarville was 9th with a 92.6 percent graduation rate. Bay Waveland was tied for 10th statewide for the Lowest Dropout rate with a 3.6 percent. Poplarville’s dropout rate was 5.4 percent.


The statewide graduation rate was 85 percent and the dropout rate was 9.7 percent.


Picayune’s graduation rate was 80.8 percent and its dropout rate was 13.6 percent.


Pearl River County (PR Central) had a graduation rate of 87.5 percent, and the district dropout rate was 5.5 percent.


Hancock County’s graduation rate was 89.2 percent with a dropout rate of 8.1 percent
