Maroon Tide rolls past D’Iberville 35-7

Picayune-Picayune continued to display tenacious defense and offensive prowess with a resounding 35-7 win over D’Iberville at Lee-Triplett Stadium.


The Maroon Tide offense scored on its first possession of the game on a 15 yard run by Donte Dowdell with 7:23 left in the first quarter. The touchdown completed a 9 play 71 yard drive. Morgan Craft booted the point after for a 7-0 lead.


Picayune added its second touchdown on another score from Dowdell from 1 yard out that came with 7:48 to go in the second quarter. Craft converted the extra point for a 14-0 advantage. Dowdell had a 61 yard run in the drive to setup the touchdown.


After the Maroon Tide defense forced another punt, the offense didn’t waste time producing another score. On first down from its 49, Brady Robertson connected with B.J Ducre for a 26 yard pass completion and one play later Darrell Smith scored from 25 yards away. Craft kicked the extra point again with 4:20 left before half to make it 21-0.

Picayune’s defense held D’Iberville out of the end zone on consecutive incomplete passes from the Maroon Tide 6 yard line to end the first half.


The first possession of the third quarter resulted in the Warriors punting the ball away and it came to rest at the Picayune two yard line. On second down, Dowdell took the pitch on the power sweep, broke three tackles, and pulled away from the Warrior secondary on the final thirty yards for a 98 yard touchdown run with 8:07 left in the quarter. Craft was true once again on the point to make it 28-0.

After another Warrior punt, Picayune got a touchdown run from Chris Davis from 6 yards out with 2:25 left in the quarter to push the lead to 35-0 with Craft point after.


D’Iberville scored on the next possession on a 8 yard run from Landyn Shannon with 7:31 to play.


Picayune (4-0) ran for 379 yards on 32 attempts. Dowdell finished with 9 carries for 224 yards. The Maroon Tide defense held D’Iberville to 159 yards total offense.


Head Coach Cody Stogner was please with his teams play.

“This was just an example of their preparation all week. They wanted to erase that memory of our only loss last season. I was real proud of our effort for a full four quarters tonight,” he said in the postgame on WRJW radio.


Picayune opens region play on Friday at Pearl River Central.
