Man arrested for illegal narcotics after running stop sign
The Picayune Police Department made an arrest for illegal narcotics after observing a driver run a stop sign according to a press release from Assistant Police Chief James Bolton.
Bolton stated in the release that on May 3, 2022, at approximately 6:30 p.m., officers were on Interstate 59 at Exit 1 when they observed a silver Hyundai Elantra exit the interstate and run the stop sign at the end of the off ramp. The officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle for the moving violation.
According to Bolton, the officers observed the driver of the vehicle, identified as Gauge Hannon Norman, age 27, of 157 Shorty Burgess Road, Picayune, MS, leaning over in the vehicle as if he was reaching towards the passenger side floorboard prior to the vehicle coming to a stop. Officers made contact with Norman, and had him exit the vehicle for officer safety.
At this time, officers received permission to search the vehicle for suspected contraband and or weapons. During the search of the inside of the vehicle, officers located a clear plasic bag containing a green rock like substance believed to be heroin according to Bolton.
Norman was arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Distribute and Disobeying a Traffic Control Device (Stop Sign). Norman was transported to the Lenior-Rowell Criminal Justice where he was booked and incarcerated.
