Cold case of elderly Picayune woman solved

A cold case that was over 20 years old was recently solved with the arrest of a local man.

Captain Rhonda Johnson, with Picayune Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division, said Sergio “Scooby” Williams, age 47, with an address listed as 111 Iris Street, Picayune, was arrested Sunday afternoon for the 1998 murder of Ms. Leola Jordan, who was age 91 at the time of her death. Captain Johnson said Williams was Jordan’s grandson.

Jordan was found dead in her home after being stabbed multiple times.

Captain Johnson stated that a review of previous interviews with witnesses and the availability of more advanced testing facilities for DNA were key in solving the case.

Captain Johnson and the Picayune Police Department has been working with the TV show Cold Justice which led to the access of the testing facilities.

Williams is being held at the Lenoir Rowell Criminal Justice Center in Millard.
