Cause of fire at Nicholson VFD station is determined
On Monday evening around 10:52 p.m., the Pearl River County Central Dispatch was notified of a structure fire at the Nicholson Volunteer Fire Department located at 2776 Jackson Landing Road in the Nicholson community just outside the city limits of Picayune.
On Tuesday, the Pearl River County Fire Marshall and the Mississippi’s State Fire Marshall have concluded their joint investigation and have determined that the cause of the fire was a malfunction in one of the fire trucks housed within the station as the cause of the fire.
Personnel and resources from five area fire departments responded and the fire was quickly extinguished. Three fire apparatus and several items of fire fighting equipment were destroyed in the fire. No injuries were reported with this incident.
According to Bobby Robbins, former Nicholson Fire Chief, the building suffered extensive structural damage and those damage were said to be approximately $1 million according the Bobby Robbins, former Nicholson Fire Chief. It’s estimated to take 90-100 days to have the equipment replaced.
