Body recovered in Amtrak incident at MS/LA line

The body of the male who was hit by an Amtrak train on Monday morning near the Mississippi/Louisiana line has been found and his identity released.
Pearl River County Coroner Derek Turnage said the victim was identified as Lonnie Reynolds, age 34, of Biloxi, MS, died as a result of Blunt Force Trauma from being hit by the train.
Turnage said Reynold’s body was located approximately of the train trestle on the East Pearl River near Nicholson.
According to Major Joe Quave stated that a male and a female were walking on the railroad bridge crossing the Pearl River at the Mississippi and Louisiana State line. The two victims were unable to get clear of an approaching Amtrak passenger train and both were struck.
Quave said that when deputies from both Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department and St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office, they were able to locate the female victim. She was placed on a medical helicopter and airlifted to LSU Hospital in New Orleans with very severe injuries according to Quave. Rescue workers had been actively searching for Reynolds since the incident.
