An arrest has been made in the Tuesday hit-and-run accident on Jackson Landing Road that left a 17-year-old hospitalized. Gavin Miller was struck by a vehicle while he was walking along Jackson Landing Road on Tuesday morning between just before 7:00 am.
Miller’s family told authorities that Gavin sent a text to a friend indiciating he would soon be at the location of the friend at a bus stop in five minutes but Miller never arrived. A short time later, Miller’s friend found Gavin in a nearby ditch. Emergency personnel treated Miller, who was airlifted to a Jackson hospital where he was listed in critical condition. According to his family, Miller is now stable, but still has serious internal injuries and a head injury.
According to Pearl River County Sheriff’s Office Chief Investigator Marc Ogden, Kristin Francis Marie Pittman, age 22, turned herself in after seeing photos of her SUV that were obtained from a surveillance video and shared on Mississippi Crime Stoppers and multiple news sources when the identity of the driver was being sought.
Ogden said Pittman admitted to being the driver and was charged with one count leaving the scene of an accident with injuries, which is a felony.
