Two arrested after traffic stop
Picayune Police Assistant Chief Dustin Moeller stated that on September 25, 2019, at approximately 11:45 p.m., a Picayune Police Patrol officer observed a black Toyota mini-van commit a series of traffic violations and they attempted to conduct a traffic stop near the intersection of Memorial Blvd and Telly Road, but the driver, identified later as Joshua Jermaine Jones, age 35, of 806 Herrin Drive, Picayune, refused to stop his vehicle. The vehicle continued traveling south on Telly Road and made a right hand turn on Westonia Street heading in a westward direction.
According to Moeller, the vehicle finally came to a stop at the end of Westonia Street after the officer gave multiple verbal commands over the public address system from his patrol car. The officer made contact with Jones and detected a strong odor of what he believed was marijuana emitting from the interior of the vehicle.
A second officer arrived at the scene and Jones was asked to exit the vehicle and he complied according to Moeller. Officers made contact with a passenger in the front seat of the vehicle, identified as Kerri Lee Lynn Brass, age 27, of 3 Ken-Du Road, Poplarville. Moeller stated that officers also ask Brass to exit the vehicle, and located a bag of marijuana and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle where Brass was seated in the front seat. They also located five plastic baggies containing a crystal-like substance believed to be crystal methamphetamine on her person.
Jones and Brass
Brass was taken into custody and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance (felony), Possession of Marijuana in a Motor Vehicle, Possession of Paraphernalia, and Possession of Untaxed Whiskey. Jones was charged with the same charges as Brass as well as Failure to Yield to Blue Lights and One Head Light (improper equipment).
Both Brass and Jones were transported to the Criminal Justice Center, booked, and incarcerated according to Moeller.
