Local man arrested for numerous drug related charges

Picayune Police Department Assistant Chief Dustin Moeller stated that on August 19, 2019, at approximately 1:45 p.m., an officer were dispatched to 1223 Kingsway Drive in reference to a welfare concern on a black male.

Upon arrival, Moeller said the officer observed a black male, later identified as Jaylon Juwon Jenkins, age 25, of 81 South Fork Drive, Carriere, MS, wearing a white shirt standing near Building D which matched the clothing description that had been received by dispatch from the caller and relayed to the officer. The officer observed Jenkins pull a firearm from his waistline and conceal it in the small of his back according to Moeller.

The officer exited his patrol car and ordered Jenkins to show him his hands, but Jenkins refused and kept his hands behind his back near the weapon. Moeller stated that the officer continued giving commands to Jenkins and he finally put his hands on top of his head. At this time, Jenkins was ordered to turn around and he complied. At this time, the officer was able to secure the handgun from Jenkins which was loaded with a live round in the chamber.

During a pat-down of Jenkins for officer safety, the officer discovered a clear plastic baggie in Jenkins' right front pants pocket which contained numerous colored tablets believed to be ecstasy and a clear plastic baggie containing a crystalized substance. Through investigative techniques, Moeller stated that the officer was able to confirm that Jenkins was a convicted felon.

Jenkins was arrested and transported to the Criminal Justice Center (CJC). Upon arrival at the CJC, officers performed a search of Jenkins person and found a clear plastic baggie containing a large amount of a brown powdered substance believed to be heroin from Jenkins’ underclothes.

Moeller said that Jenkins was booked and incarcerated for Trafficking a Controlled Substance while in possession of a Firearm, Possession of a Controlled Substance With Intent to Distribute while in Possession of a Firearm, Possession of a Controlled Substance While in Possession of a Firearm, Possession of a Weapon by a Convicted Felon, and a Felony charge of Introducing Contraband into a Correctional Facility.
