Local motel housekeeper arrested for distribution of illegal narcotics

The Picayune Police Narcotics Division made an arrest of an employee of the Super 8 Motel located at 999 Cooper Road according to Picayune Police Department Assistant Chief Dustin Moeller.

Assistant Chief Moeller stated that after a three and one half month investigation, detectives executed a search warrant on Wednesday, July 10, 2019, at approximately 4:30 p.m. on a room at the motel that was being used as a residence by a suspect identified as Janie Renee Barbin, age 54, who was employed as a housekeeper at the motel.

Detectives came in contact with Barbin and they found her to be in possession of a substantial amount of a rock-like substance believed to be Methamphetamine and other drug paraphernalia. The narcotics were found to be packaged for distribution as well according to Moeller.

Moeller said Barbin was arrested and charged with Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Distribute. Moeller said that during the investigation, detectives had learned that Barbin was allegedly selling methamphetamine out of the hotel room that she was occupying for a long period of time.

Moeller said that it was learned that Barbin was on probation with the Mississippi Department of Corrections and they placed a hold on her after her arrest. Barbin was transported to the Criminal Justice Center where she was booked and incarcerated.
