Picayune Fire Department receives grant for Izzy re-certification

Picayune Fire Marshall Pat Weaver came before the Picayune City Council for the acceptance of a grant from PETCO Foundation in the amount $3,000.

Izzy, the Fire Department’s arson investigation dog, was on hand with Weaver to receive the grant which will be used for her re-certification for the next two years with $1,500 for the first year and $1,500 the next year.

The beautiful five year old black lab was provided by State Farm Insurance and she is one of approximately 100 specially trained dogs that serve fire departments around the country. State Farm has been a sponsor of the Arson Dog Program since 1993.

Izzy is trained to seek out ignitable liquids that may have been used to burn property for illegal purposes.
