Leigh White resigns as Pearl River head softball coach

POPLARVILLE, Miss. — Leigh White resigned from her post as Pearl River softball coach Tuesday.

“It has been both a blessing and privilege to serve as head coach of this softball program for the last 16 years. I am very proud of what we built together. Sharing in the lives and development of so many young people has been an honor and I wish the team the very best moving forward,” White said. “Thank you to the community, the fans, the players and their families for the joy you have brought to me for so long. It was a challenging year, but we rallied to finish strong.

“I am looking forward to a new chapter in life, but I want to say a special thank you to every player who has left their mark on this program. I am proud to have been your coach. I’m looking forward to what God has in store for me in this next chapter in my life.”

White compiled a career record of 386-322 at PRCC. White’s Wildcats won the 2010 State Championship and most recently hosted the Region XXIII Tournament for the first time in program history after finishing as the MACJC Tournament runner-up; the run through the state tournament included upset victories over Jones College and Northeast.

A graduate of Quitman High in 1995, White played at Jones College and later Southern Wesleyan University in South Carolina before joining Mississippi Gulf Coast’s staff as a graduate assistant in 2000. White joined PRCC’s staff as an assistant under Laurie Neelis a year later and took over as head coach for the 2004 season.
