Chancery Clerk Bowman returns another large sum of money to county's general fund

During Monday’s meeting of the Pearl River County Board of Supervisors, Chancery Clerk Melinda Smith Bowman gave the board an update on the finances of her office for the year ending 2018 after having completed her annual financial report and submission of the report to the Mississippi Office of the State Auditor on Monday April 15, 2019.

In a letter to the board, Bowman stated that after paying her employee salaries and other expenses, she apprised the board that she has turned over $270,908 in excess fees collected for 2018 to the county’s general fund.

With the addition of the 2018 funds, in the last three years, Bowman has turned over more than $566,000 to the county’s general fund.

Prior to Smith’s election as Chancery Clerk, the amount of money turned over to the county from the Chancery Clerk office was $133,710 from 2001-2015 according to annual financial records on file with the State Auditor’s Office.
