Suspect arrested after shooting two people in Ponderosa subdivision
A Pearl River County man was arrested after he allegedly shot and wounded two people in Picayune on Wednesday afternoon.
Picayune Police Department Assistant Chief Dustin Moeller said that at approximately 5:00 p.m. on April 30th, officers were dispatched to Picayune Fire Station # 3 located at 1700 Palestine Road in reference to two gunshot victims pulling up to the fire station seeking medical attention.
When the officers arrived at the fire station, they observed a white vehicle with multiple busted out windows and what appeared to be bullet holes in the victim’s vehicle that was in the parking lot. Moeller said Picayune Fire Department (PFD) personnel had already begun providing medical aid to the passenger of the vehicle, a black male, who sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the chest and abdomen torso area. The driver, a black female, sustained a gunshot wound to her right knee.
Moeller stated that dispatch had received a call for shots fired in the area of Ponderosa subdivision just prior to the fire department requesting assistance at PFD Station # 3 for the individuals that had been shot.
Moeller said the shooting happened at the intersection of Shirley Drive and Laura Drive in the Ponderosa subdivision. Moeller said the suspect fired multiple shots into the vehicle striking the passenger numerous times and the driver in the knee in what appears to be a domestic related issue.

The victims left the scene where the shots were fired and drove to Fire Station # 3 seeking medical assistance. The victims identified the suspect as Christopher Allen Hargett, age 34, of 214 A White Sand Road, Poplarville, and they also gave a description of the vehicle. A BOLO (Be On the Lookout) was sent out to the surrounding agencies.
Moeller stated that around 7:00 p.m., the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Office (PRCSO) arrested Hargett at his residence at 214 A White Sand Road in Poplarville on two counts of Attempted Murder.
The victims were transported to Highland Community Hospital in Picayune for additional medical treatment. Moeller stated that the female victim was listed in stable condition at Highland and the male victim had been air lifted to Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg where he was listed in critical condition.
Moeller said that he, Chief Bryan Dawsey, and the Picayune Police Department would like to thank Sheriff David Allison and the PRCSO for their help and assistance in this case.
