Picayune and Pearl River Central win Game 1 in their playoff series

Picayune got a complete game pitching performance from Luke Smith and defeated Stone 6-2 in Game 1 of their best of 3 series at Picayune’s Kent Kirkland Field.

Smith struck out 9 batters, gave up four hits, and two unearned runs in the second inning. The Maroon Tide committed five errors during the game.

Picayune scored one run in the first, three in the second, and another run in the third inning.

Stone’s Cortez Dennis limited the Maroon Tide to four hits in a losing effort. Chad Dudenhefer had three hits and Kyler Lauga had the other hit for Picayune (16-9).

Pearl River Central 10 West Harrison 5

Pearl River Central jumped on West Harrison for a run in the top of first, five more in the second, and another run in the third to build a 7-0 lead and PRC held off the Hurricanes for a 10-5 win in Game 1 of their best of 3 series at Gulfport.

Austin Dean kept the Hurricanes under wraps striking out 7 batters and scattering 8 hits. Dean pitched into the seventh inning with one out before giving way to Austin Diebold.

Diebold gave up a single and a walk, but finished the game with back to back strike outs to seal the win for PRC (21-9).

Mason Treat led the Blue Devils with four hits (two singles, a double, and a triple). Robert Shoemake had two singles.
