Pearl River's Elizabeth Taggard named MACJC Player of the Week
POPLARVILLE, Miss.— Pearl River sophomore Elizabeth Taggard (Picayune) won't forget last week's doubleheader anytime soon.
For her performance, the Lady Wildcat first baseman has been named the MACJC Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
The Belhaven commit slugged three homers in the doubleheader sweep of Meridian last Wednesday as PRCC cruised to 10-0 and 14-1 run-rule victories at Lady Wildcat Stadium.
Taggard was 4-for-5 on the day, with her other ricocheting off the outfield wall for a mere double — narrowly missing what would have been her fourth homer of the day. The local product also drove in 10 runs, walked once and scored five times. PRCC's four-game slate was cut short last week due to rain; PRCC will host Coahoma on April 19 starting at 2 p.m.
Tuesday's award is just the latest honor for Taggard, who was named the Wildcat Athlete of the Month on April 1.
Taggard's .408 batting average is second on the team among regulars. Her big day at the plate catapulted Taggard into second on the team with five homers. Her 24 RBIs are tops on the roster.
The Lady Wildcats return to the diamond Wednesday with a 4 p.m. rivalry doubleheader at Mississippi Gulf Coast; the games will be streamed
at Livestream.com/MGCCCBulldogs.
PRCC will then visit East Mississippi for a 3 p.m. doubleheader Friday before returning home Monday to face Jones College. The doubleheader at Lady Wildcat Stadium is set for a 4 p.m. first pitch and will be streamed at PRCCAthletics.com.
