Pearl River inks two state champions to bolster ’19 signing class

POPLARVILLE, Miss.— Pearl River men’s soccer coach Drew Gallant announced the addition of two new signees on Monday, welcoming wingers Mohamed “Mo” Diallo and Miguel Hernandez to the program.

Both signees were instrumental in leading Gulfport High to back-to-back MHSAA Class 6A State Championships.

ABOUT MIGUEL HERNANDEZ

During Gulfport’s 18-4-3 campaign in 2017-18, Hernandez finished second on the team with 10 goals while dishing out five assists. He improved on his numbers in 2018-19 as GHS posted a 19-2-4 record, scoring 13 goals with three assists.

Gallant expects to utilize Hernandez’s attacking prowess once the right winger arrives in Poplarville.

“Miguel is excellent taking on players one-v-one,” Gallant said. “His off the ball movement creates goal scoring opportunities for himself and he’s exceptional and reading plays long before they develop so he can be in the right place at the perfect time.”

Hernandez was named Gulfport’s offensive MVP following his senior season.

ABOUT MO DIALLO

Much like Hernandez, Diallo was an offensive force at Gulfport. Diallo netted three goals and six assists two years ago and then led GHS in scoring last season when he potted 16 goals while adding two assists.

“Mo has an ideal blend of ability that we want out of our attacking players,” Gallant said. “He can finish, cross balls into the box with pinpoint accuracy and he can beat players in a one-v-one and then has enough left in the tank to separate from the defender.”

Diallo was recently named to the Sun Herald’s All-South Mississippi Team.

MORE FUTURE WILDCATS

Gallant previously bolstered his 2019 roster with the additions of transfer Caleb Burke, Jamaicans Shande James and Taja Brown, and Mississippi prep standouts John Bowman, Max Matsenbaugh, Carson Favre, and Tres Ray. Bowman, Favre and Ray were all named to the Sun Herald’s All-South Mississippi Team earlier this month.
