Texting the wrong person led to the arrest of a Picayune man
Picayune Police Department Assistant Chief Dustin Moeller said that on March 6, 2019, at 9:48 a.m., someone accidentally sent a text message to the Narcotics Division Commander telling the commander that he had illegal narcotics.
The suspect was later identified as Dereonte Deshaun Magee, age 25, of 121 Greenview Drive, Picayune. Moeller said that during the text conversation, Magee said he had marijuana on his person and would give the commander some of the marijuana.
According to Moeller, Narcotic Detectives, along with members of the Picayune Patrol Division, setup an undercover operation , and went to the address where they made contact with Magee in the front yard of the said address.
At this time, Magee bolted into the residence and locked the front door behind him. The officers and detectives were able to breach the door and they took Magee into custody for Conspiracy to Transfer a Controlled Substance within 1,500 feet of a School or Church.
Detectives obtained a search warrant and during the search of the residence, they
found several clear bags containing a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana and several brown hand-rolled cigars containing a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana located throughout the house.
Moeller said Magee was transported to the Criminal Justice Center, booked, and incarcerated.
