Pearl River competes in first rodeo event of spring semester

MERIDIAN, Miss.— The Pearl River rodeo team wrapped up its first event of the semester when it competed in the East Mississippi rodeo event held in Meridian this past weekend.

The event, which started Thursday night, saw two of Pearl River's members stand out.

Tyler Stewart (Brandon) finished fourth in the first round of bareback horse riding.

Unfortunately, Stewart was unable to keep up the momentum heading into the second round.

Rayne Royals (Purvis) roped her calf at 6.8 seconds, overcoming a slow start out of the gate.

PRCC coach Robbie Shaw was glad to see some improvement from his team this early into the spring season.

"I think we've seen some improvement so far," Shaw said. "Overall, the rough stock riders definitely showed improvement."

Pearl River returns to action on March 28 when it heads to the University of Arkansas Monticello.
