Bay St Louis man indicted for New Orleans murder

A New Orleans grand jury on Thursday indicted 30 year old Drew "Creep" Bourgeois of Bay St. Louis for a 2016 murder in the city's seventh ward. Bourgeois was charged with the second-degree murder of Matthew "Twig" Spooner and with obstructing justice in a homicide investigation.

Spooner, also a Hancock County native, was found dead in a home in the 2100 block of North Miro Street in New Orleans. Records show Spooner was the father of three children of ages 11, 9 and 3 at the time of his death.

Spooner, who grew up in Leetown, had been staying at the house in New Orleans for a short time before he was killed, family members told authorities.

Bourgeois has also been charged with murder in Hancock County for the death of Jeremy Fountain, whose body was found in the woods near Chesapeake and Coral Streets in Shoreline Park on July 11, 2016, just eight days after Spooner was found dead.

Bourgeois was arrested by Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies inside an Old Jefferson hotel room in Metairie on July 14, 2016 where he was hiding out with a gun, drugs and his girlfriend, according to District Attorney Leon Cannizzaro’s office. The warrant was signed by Waveland Municipal Judge P.J. Mauffray.

Both Spooner and Fountain were killed by gunshot wounds to the head, authorities say, and may even have been murdered on the same day.

Bourgeois is currently serving a 10-year sentence at the Wynn Correctional Center for illegal possession of a firearm by a felon. He faces life in prison if convicted of Spooner's murder.

Fountain and Spooner were friends and also members of the Simon City Royals, but left the Royals and with other Simon City Royals associates, formed a new group called the "Sip City Royals," with hopes of moving away from criminal activities and making a positive impact on the community, according to friends of the two men.
