Picayune teams lose in district title games; home games on Monday and Tuesday

Summit, MS—Hattiesburg won the Girls and Boys District 7-5A basketball championships by defeating Picayune 48-19 in the Girls game and 62-47 in the Boys game in games played at North Pike High School in Summit.

Girls Hattiesburg 48 Picayune 19

The defending state champion Lady Tigers raced out to a 34-11 halftime lead and coasted to the victory. Kylah Walker had 6 points and Sarah Stockstill scored 5 points for Picayune.

Picayune will host Long Beach on Monday at 7:00pm in the first round of the South State playoffs.

Camille Culpepper and Deniyah Freeman were named to all district team.

Boys Hattiesburg 62 Picayune 47

Picayune trailed 9-0 to start the game, but chipped away to get within two points twice, but the depth of Hattiesburg took over the game in the second half.

Kobe Jones (pictured above making a 3 pointer) led Picayune with 18 points including three 3 pointers. Marvun Arnold added 14 points for Picayune and Segio Williams finished with 9 points.

Picayune will host West Harrison on Tuesday at 7:00pm in the first round of the South State playoffs.

Marvun Arnold, Kobe Jones, and Sergio Williams were selected for the all district team. Arnold was voted the district MVP.
