Suspect arrested after bizarre actions in a Memorial Blvd parking lot
Picayune Police arrested a Slidell man after the suspect was unable to scale a fence as he tried to flee from a patrol officer on foot and was apprehended. According to Captain Dustin Moeller, the suspect ironically was only a few feet away from an opening in the fence that he could have walked or ran through if he had been familiar with the area.
On January 16, 2019, at 11:58 p.m., a patrol officer was on patrol when he observed a gray Nissan Altima in a parking lot on Memorial Blvd. While the officer was driving through the parking lot, the Nissan abruptly backed out of a parking spot and just missed colliding with the patrol car.
Moeller said the officer initiated his blue lights at which time the Nissan sped away heading north in the parking lot. The officer then sounded his siren and the Nissan continued to drive at a speed of approximately 45 mph. The officer continued to pursue the vehicle and eventually the vehicle began to slow down. At this time, two male suspects exited the Nissan while it was still in motion. The suspects ran toward an adjacent apartment complex while the vehicle continued to roll until it stopped when it crashed into a brick wall at a business at the north end of the parking lot.
The driver of the Nissan was able to get away by running through a hole in the fence and disappeared from the eyesight of the officer. The passenger, who was apparently not familiar with the area, tried to climb the fence instead of using the opening in the fence to flee from the area according to Moeller.

The suspect, later identified as Darryl Keith Anthony, age 27, of 59220 Preacher Oaks Lane, Slidell, LA, tried to jump the fence, but he fell. Anthony continued to unsuccessfully attempt to climb the fence numerous times before the officer got close to Anthony and commanded him to place his hands behind his back. Anthony ignored the commands from the officer and continued to try to climb the fence.
At this time, a second patrol officer arrived on the scene and attempted to locate the driver of the Nissan, but he was not able to find him. The first officer, who had been commanding Anthony to stop and put his hands behind his back, drew his taser and deployed it on Anthony. Anthony was then escorted back to the officer’s patrol car according to Moeller.
The two officers located a clear plastic baggie in the area where Anthony was attempting to climb the fence. The bag contained a white rock-like substance believed to be crack cocaine.
Moeller stated that Anthony was arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Distribute within 1500 feet of a School or Church, Resisting Arrest by Fleeing, and Disorderly Conduct Failure to Comply. He was transported to the Criminal Justice Center where he was booked and incarcerated.
