Picayune boys grind out win over North Pike 49-39

Down 27-20 at the half, Picayune went on a 20-2 run in third quarter that was the result of tenacious defense by the Maroon Tide and Picayune went on to beat North Pike 49-39 to improve their overall record to 13-9 and their district record to 3-0.

After the game, Kobe Jones told WRJW radio “We just kept grinding on defense. That’s what coach preaches to us all the time in practice.”

Kobe Jones had 19 points, Marvun Arnold added 13 points, Derai Jones had 12 points, and Jalen Hall scored 5 points for Picayune.

Today, Picayune will play in the Hoops Fest in Biloxi again D’Iberville at 5:30 p.m. and in Jackson on Monday in the MLK tournament against Cleveland Central at 2:30 p.m.

Picayune girls beat North Pike 47-38.

Down 17-16 at the half on the road, the Lady Maroon Tide rallied to take a 29-25 lead at the end of the third quarter and went on a 7-0 run to pull away for the win

Sarah Stockstill led Picayune with 15 points and Camille Culpepper added 12 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 steals. Deniyah Freeman 9 points.

The Lady Tide is now 8-12 overall and 1-2 in district play.

The Lady Tide plays at Gulfport on Monday in a non-district game scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
