Picayune boys beat Hattiesburg 50-47

Hattiesburg- The Picayune Maroon Tide Boys made a statement in their district opener by beating the Hattiesburg Tigers last night 50-47 at the Tiger Den.

The Maroon Tide cut the lead to 22-21 at the half on a 3 pointer by Marvun Arnold at the buzzer. Picayune took a 37-34 lead into the fourth quarter and build a 43-34 advantage before Hattiesburg (12-5, 0-1) stormed back.

Sergio Williams scored 4 of Picayune's last six points (two on free throws) and Jalen Hall scored on a layup on an assist from Arnold to seal the win on the road for the Maroon Tide (11-9, 1-0).

Arnold had 16 points and 10 rebounds, Kobe Jones had 15 points ( including three 3 pointers), and Willliams added 10 points.

Picayune will host Pearl River Central on Friday.

Sarah Stockstill (12) fires away at Hattiesburg

In the girls game, the defending state champion Lady Tigers (13-3, 1-0) won 47-19. Sarah Stockstill (pictured above shooting) led Picayune (7-11, 0-1) with 10 points.
