Traffic stop leads to narcotics related arrest of a local man

On November 25, at approximately 8:39 a.m., Picayune Police Patrol observed a vehicle with an expired tag and conducted a traffic stop on a gold 2001 Chevrolet 1500 pickup truck at 1100 Memorial Blvd at the Shell gas station parking lot.

According to Assistant Chief Jeremy Magri, the officer made contact with the suspect, identified as Larry Wayne Tate, age 25, of 23080 Road 262 Picayune, MS. Tate was asked for a driver’s license and proof of insurance, but was unable to provide either the officer. The officer checked Tate’s information in NCIC and learned that Tate’s driver’s license was suspended.

While the officer was speaking with Tate, it was learned through investigative techniques that Tate had a small pipe commonly used to inhale narcotics in the truck. Tate handed the pipe to the officer that Tate retrieved from between the two front seats in the truck. It was also learned that Tate had Marijuana, but Tate was unsure where it was located in his vehicle according to Magri.

At this time, Tate was asked to exit the vehicle and a second officer arrived at the scene. The first officer searched the vehicle while the second officer performed a pat-down on Tate. During the pat-down on Tate, the second officer found a Marlboro cigarette pack that contained a clear plastic baggie containing three orange pills identified as Adderall and a cellophane wrapper containing eleven white pills identified as Clonazepam.

The search also turned up a white napkin containing a clear crystal-like substance believed to be Crystal Methamphetamine and a clear plastic bag containing a green leafy substance believed to be Marijuana.

Magri said Tate was charged with two felony counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance (Adderall and Crystal Methamphetamine), Possession of a Controlled Substance (misdemeanor), Driving While License Suspended (Implied Consent), No Proof of Liability Insurance, and Expired Tag.

Tate was transported to the Criminal Justice Center where he was booked and incarcerated.
