Two Year Old Child Found Abandoned, Wandering Alone Near Slidell Motel
Slidell--The father of a 2-year-old child, who was found abandoned and wandering in traffic near a local Slidell motel, is in jail and is facing serious charges.
Around 8:00 p.m. last night (Tuesday, November 27), Slidell Police responded to Days Inn (58512 Tyler Drive) after receiving reports of a 2-year-old child wandering in the roadway with no pants or shoes. A good citizen took the child into the lobby of Days Inn, and the search began for the parent.
Slidell Police officers searched the area for over forty-five minutes before locating the father of the child passed out in one of the motel rooms. The man, 42-year-old, Nathaniel Burnette (Pearl River, LA), was asked if he was missing his child.
Burnette acknowledged that he was missing his two-year-old, but didn’t realize it because he was sleeping. Officers discovered Burnette was in possession of crack cocaine, to which he admitted he had been selling out of his motel room, as well as marijuana.
Burnette was placed under arrest and charged with:
Possession of Cocaine with Intent to Distribute
Child Desertion
Transactions Involving Proceeds from Controlled Dangerous Substance Transactions
Cruelty to Juveniles
Drug Paraphernalia
Possession of Marijuana
The child, who was unharmed, was turned over to responsible family member. The case will be turned over to the Department of Children and Family Services.
