Local felon arrested during traffic stop

Picayune Police Narcotic and Patrol Division were conducting proactive patrols in the area of South Beech Street near Will Street on November 7, 2018, at approximately 4:48 p.m. when they observed a green pickup truck leave the roadway several times.

According to a press release from Picayune Police Department Assistant Chief Jeremy Magri, the detectives conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle for Careless Driving. As the detectives and patrol officers approached the vehicle, they smelled a strong odor of what appeared to be Marijuana emitting from the vehicle.

At this time, detectives detained the suspect, identified as Malcom Dallas Harvey, age 25, of 214 South Steele Avenue, Picayune. Upon conducting a search of the vehicle, detectives located a Newport Cigarette pack that contained several brown, hand-rolled cigars containing a green leafy substance believed to be Marijuana on the front passenger side floor board. Detectives also located a loaded black Taurus 38 caliber handgun concealed behind the glove box according to Magri’s press release.

Through further investigative techniques, Magri’s press release states that it was learned that Harvey was a convicted felon. Harvey was placed under arrest for Possession of a Weapon by a Felon and Possession of a Controlled Substance (misdemeanor) and transported to the Criminal Justice Center where he was booked and incarcerated.
