Hattiesburg tops Picayune 49-35
The Picayune Maroon Tide and the Hattiesburg Tigers swapped scores for three quarters with neither team leading by more than a touchdown before the Tigers recovered an onside kick that change the flow of the game. The Tigers scored after the onside kick and that enabled them to defeat the Maroon Tide 49-35 at D.I. Patrick Stadium in Hattiesburg.
Both teams scored on their first three possessions to make 21-21.
Picayune drove 15 plays covering 80 yards with Jortin Raine scoring from 4 yards out. Hattiesburg tied the game on a 14 play 83 yard drive with Jarod Conner throwing a 13 yard touchdown pass to Kadarius Hicks.
Picayune quarterback Jakail Myers scored from 3 yards away after a 5 play 60 yard drive and Connor responded with a 16 yard run for Hattiesburg to tie it at 14-14.

Myers connected on a 31 yard touchdown pass to Danzelle Whitney and Connor responded with a 35 yard touchdown pass to Darius Ruffin to tie it at 21-21.
Hattiesburg scored on its first possession of the second half on a 59 yard run by Connor with 10:22 left in the quarter. The Maroon Tide answered with a 12 play 80 yard drive with Myers running in 2 yards out to make it 28-28.
Connor brought the Tigers down the field on a 10 play 54 yard drive with the touchdown coming on a 35-28 yard pass to Ruffin with :48 left in the third quarter.
The Tigers then went for an onside kick and recovered the kick at their own 49 yard line. Picayune Head Coach Dodd Lee called timeout and had a heated discussion with the officials pointing out that the Maroon Tide returners were blocked by the Tigers before being given a chance to catch the ball. Lee lost the argument, was ejected, and Hattiesburg ended up with the ball at the Picayune 20 yard line after the penalties assessed with the ejection. Connor scored 4 plays later on a 1 yard run to put the score at 42-28 with 11:44 left in the game.
Picayune scored on its next possession on Kaleb Hart’s 45 yard run that was made possible by a crushing block by Blake Mitchell. Hart’s touchdown came with 10:33 left and with Issac Brice extra point (his fifth of the game) made it 42-35.
Hattiesburg pushed the lead back to a 14 point margin when Connor connected with Ruffin again, this time on a two yard pass to make it 49-35 with 6:43 left.
Raine paced Picayune with 35 carries for 226 yards. Hart added 95 yards on 4 carries for Picayune (6-3, 4-1).
Connor ran for 195 yards on 17 carries and completed 12 of 20 passes for 164 yards for Hattiesburg (9-0,5-0).
Picayune hosts Gautier on Friday at Lee-Triplett Stadium.
