Local man killed in Interstate 59 accident near Exit 1

Picayune Police Assistant Chief Jeremy Magri stated that an accident on Interstate 59 resulted in the death of a Nicholson man identified as 35 year old Douglas Keene.
At approximately 3:30 am on Thursday, officers were dispatched after the driver of a vehicle indicated that he collided with an object near the Nicholson (Exit 1).
According to Magri, the investigation revealed that the victim, Keene, was strucked by the 2013 Dodge Journey as he walked on the southbound lanes and got into the traffic.
Pearl River County Coroner Derek Turnage ruled the cause of death to be blunt force trauma that occurred during the collision with the vehicle. Magri said the driver was asked to submit a blood sample which is normal protocol when an accident causes a death to be used for testing for the presence of alcohol.
