Picayune Main Street’s 11th Annual Blues and Heritage Festival set for Friday and Saturday
Picayune Main Street’s 11th Annual Blues and Heritage Festival is just a day away with the event scheduled for Friday and Saturday on West Canal Street in Picayune.
The music starts at 6:00 p.m. on Friday evening with Picayune's very own Blues Queen Lynne Barze accompanied by Ted Barze. After the Barzes, 4 On the Floor and, then the Southern Sound Band close out the first evening.
Picayune Main Street Director Reba Beebe is excited about this year’s event.
“We have so many talented local performers as part of the festival and we will showcase them on both nights,” Beebe shared.
“On Friday, along with the great music, Stonewalls BBQ and Southern Char Steakhouse will both be open for attendees to enjoy some great food while taking in the music and activities.”
On Saturday, the Hot Rod Heaven Classic Car Show is from 10:00 a.m. til 4:00 p.m. with the proceeds going to help a local 16 year old leukemia patient. At 5:00 p.m., the judging begins for the Toys for Tots dessert bake off fundraiser.
This fundraiser has a unique twist of doubling as a competition as well as a fundraiser.
“The contestants must enter two of the same dessert. One is for sampling by attendees and our three judges for the bake off competition. The other one will be auctioned off with the money raised going to our local Toys for Tots program. Steve McDonald is our auctioneer and I hope he’s been practicing!”, Beebe shared with a chuckle.
After the dessert bake off winners have been announced and the dessert auction is complete, Day 2 of the music begins at 6:00 p.m. with the Curmudgeons Blue Grass Group featuring Pat Drackett of the Crosby Arboretum with her public musical debut. They will be followed by the Tim Burns and the Solid Gold Band’s Tribute to the Blues Brothers.
During Saturday’s events, Chris and Rita Durapau with Dixie-Q BBQ will be on hand selling bar-b-que and Southern Char Steakhouse will be open again on Day 2 also with more great food by prepared by Chef Trey Moses and his kitchen crew.
Beebe pointed out other things that will be going on at the festival.
“We will have one copy of our festival poster on a framed canvas in a silent auction. Matt Barousse and Barousse Designs designed our festival artwork and shirts. We will have posters and shirts on sale during the event,” said Beebe.
Beebe also noted that anyone who purchases a festival poster or a festival shirt will be entered into a drawing for tickets to the Global Wildlife Center (5 sets of 4 tickets per set ) and the Audobon Zoo or the Aquarium of Americans ( 4 sets of 2 tickets per set). The tickets were donated by WRJW 1320 AM radio.
Beebe invites everyone to come out, bring your favorite lawn chairs, but not your ice chests, and enjoy the music and fun on West Canal Street in Picayune!
