PRCC women drop regular season finale, turn attention to playoffs
POPLARVILE — The Pearl River Lady Wildcats finished up their regular season Friday night dropping a South Division contest to rival Jones College 8-0.
“We can beat anyone on any night, we just didn’t show up tonight,” PRCC coach Jack Byrd said. “We will be ok, we just need to regroup.”
PRCC (7-7-1; 4-3-1) had difficulty slowing done the Lady Bobcats (10-2; 7-0) on offense as Jones got on the board in the 1st minutes with a goal from playmaker Mikayla Banks.
The Lady Bobcats got on the board once again in the 15th minute on a penalty kick from Aimee Durn.
Just two minutes later Jones added to its lead with a long shot goal from Banks that sailed in over the head of Pearl River goalkeeper Abbi Thexton (Sumrall).
The last first half score from Jones came in the 40th minute when Rachel Barnaby punched in a goal to make the score 4-0.
Jones didn’t ease up in the second half as Barnaby scored her second goal of the match in the 53rd minute.
Four minutes later the Lady Bobcats scored again when Durn cashed in with her second goal of the match in the 57th minute after an assist from Madison LaFontaine to make the score 6-0.
Jones scored two more times in the second half with goals from Esmeralda Figueroa.
Thexton made four saves in the first half, while sophomore Mallorie Seal (Brooklyn; Forrest County AHS) made two in the second half.
