Cruisin’ the Coast closing some parts of U.S. Highway 90
September 28, 2018
HATTIESBURG, MISS.— Classic cars will be covering U.S. Highway 90 this week for the annual Cruisin’ the Coast, and the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) is reminding drivers that they can use MDOT travel resources to avoid road closures and delays. Each year thousands of classic and exotic cars line the beach up and down U.S. Highway 90 as car owners, collectors and enthusiasts gather to show off their rides. This influx of vehicles and people can cause heavy and slow traffic in addition to the scheduled closings.
“This event can offer a boost to local business, but be sure to keep yourself informed on traffic information,” said Commissioner Tom King, Southern Transportation District. “MDOT’s traffic resources can help you avoid getting caught by road closures during Cruisin’ the Coast.”
Motorists can get the most current travel and traffic information by visiting MDOTtraffic.com or by downloading the newly updated, and free, MDOT Traffic app from the App Store or Google Play. Using these free resources, motorists can get current travel information, including the latest information on multiple projects in Jackson County, as well as traffic alerts for crashes, hazards, road work and closures. Road work on U.S. Highway 90 is scheduled to have as little traffic impact as possible during Cruisin’ the Coast.
Along with these free travel resources, motorists can also get travel and traffic information by liking and following @MississippiDOT on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and SnapChat.
MDOT also reminds motorists to drive safe, be patient and be alert for those traveling to Cruisin’ the Coast, especially along U.S. 90. Be sure to factor in additional travel time for potential congestion due to increased travel.
