Gulfport edges Picayune 37-35
Picayune had a tough time tackling Gulfport’s Tionne Frost on Friday and the result was a breakout game for the 6-2, 225, senior tailback as he would run for 184 yards on 20 carries in pushing the Admirals past the Maroon Tide 37-35 on homecoming night at Picayune's Lee-Triplett Stadium.
Gulfport scored on the first possession of the game with a quick 7 play 65 yard drive using just under three minutes off the clock with the touchdown coming on a 14 yard pass from T.Q. Newsome to Zae Crain for a 6-0 lead. Gulfport missed the point after.
Picayune scored on their first possession as well getting a 24 yard touchdown run from Jairice Travis that capped off a 11 play 77 yard drive taking 5 min 54 seconds off the clock. Issac Brice’s extra point put Picayune up 7-6 with 2:50 left in the first quarter.

The teams traded score again with Gulfport scoring on a 45 yard pass from Newsome to Keeilan Thomas and Picayune getting another 24 yard run from Travis. Arnie Ramirez point put Picayune up 14-13 with 8:53 left in the second quarter.
Gulfport scored on their third possession on a 45 yard run by Tyran Gable with 7:09 left in the half. Picayune fumbled the ball on their possession after the Admiral kickoff and Frost scored on the fourth play after the change of possession on a 42 yard run to put Gulfport up 27-14 with 3:19 left.

Picayune then scored on a 31 yard pass from Jakail Myers to Curdevone Jackson with 1:27 left and with the Ramirez extra point cut the lead to 27-21.
Picayune sacked Newsome on fourth down at the Picayune 35 to end the half.
Picayune took the lead on the first possession of the second half on a 1 yard run by Myers and Ramirez’s extra point that gave the Maroon Tide a 28-27 lead with 8:15 left in the third quarter.
Gulfport regained the lead at 30-27 on a 31 yard field goal by Durron Myers with 4:22 left in the third quarter.
After and exchange of punts by the two teams, Picayune took the lead again on Jortin Raine’s 3 yard run with 8:37 left in the game. Ramirez kicked the extra point for a 35-30 lead.

Gulfport responded with a 6 yard run by Frost with 7:02 left to take a 37-35 lead after Murron’s point after.
Picayune and Gulfport both turned the ball over on downs on their next possessions with Picayune failing on fourth down at their own 30 and Gulfport was stopped at the Maroon Tide 12.
Gulfport’s Cameron Sparkman intercepted Picayune on its next possession with :45 left and the Admirals ran out the clock.
Newsome completed 9 of 16 passes for 162 yards and ran 11 times for 47 yards to compliment Frost’s breakout performance.
Raine led the Maroon Tide with 127 yards on 23 carries while Travis finished with 12 rushes for 92 yards.
Picayune (2-2) will have open date next week before opening region play with a home game on September 21 against Wayne County.
