Maroon Tide, Blue Devils, & Hornets all post wins


Picayune 28 Pascagoula 11

The Picayune Maroon Tide got a 28-11 road win over the Pascagoula Panthers at War Memorial Stadium to move its record to 2-1 on the season.

After the Panthers missed a field goal on their first possession, the Maroon Tide drove 80 yards in 11 plays with Jortin Raine scoring from 7 yards out with 3:55 left in the first quarter. Issac Brice kicked the extra point for a 7-0 lead.

Picayune got the ball back quickly on Leonard Taylor’s interception at the Picayune 44. On first down, Picayune quarterback Jakail Myers connected with fullback Greg Swan on a 45 yard pass play putting the ball at the Panther 11. Three plays later, Jairice Travis scored on a 4 yard run with 1:07 left in the quarter. Issac Brice's point after made it 14-0.

Pascagoula got on the scoreboard on the its next possession on a 4 yard run by Montello Kirkland. The Panthers converted a two point conversion on a run by Jacoryn Walker making the score 14-8 with 10:09 left in the second quarter.

Picayune responded with an 80 yard drive on 16 plays with quarterback Jakail Myers scoring on a 2 yard run and Brice kicked the extra point for a 21-7 lead with 2:30 left.

Picayune ended the half on an interception by Jaylen Hart.

Pascagoula got a 24 yard field goal from Spence Colmer on their first possession of the third quarter. After that, the Maroon Tide defense forced two punts and got an interception by Devonta Smith.

Picayune scored its last points on a 2 yard run by Cameron Thomas with 6:38 left.

On the evening, Picayune ran for 349 yards with Raine gaining 106 yards on 19 carries. Winston Drain added 14 carries for 78 yards, and Travis ran 12 times for 63 yards.

Picayune will host Gulfport on Friday.

Pearl River Central 41 FCAHS 0

The PRC Blue Devils got Head Coach Jacob Owen his first win as a head coach with a 41-0 shutout on the road at Forrest County A.H.S. in Brooklyn.

Clay Spiers (12 rushes – 77 yards, TD) ,Detrich Spikes (7-61, TD), and Kobe Whitehead (10-61, TD) and Cameron Brunson (2-13 rushing; passing 4 of 7 for 57 yards, TD pass to D.J. Ruff) led the PRC offense.

Pearl River Central is open this coming week.

Poplarville 41 Seminary 25

Poplarille, tied at 13-13 at the half, did what is has done many times over the past two seasons and controlled the second half to beat home standing Seminary 41-25 and improve to 2-1 on the year.

Senior quarterback Antonio Barnes threw two touchdowns and ran for another. Amahd Bolton ran for two touchdowns.

Tyson Holston scored on a 65-yard run and caught a 30-yard touchdown pass.

Poplarville will host Stone on Friday.
